If your boiler is more than 15 years old then it is probably in your financial interests to replace it, as new boilers are far more energy efficient. Your old boiler is probably around 70-75% efficient, possibly less if it is very old. Estimates of how much you could save vary from £40 to £200 a year.

If your boiler is less than 10 years old then it may be more economical to upgrade your heating controls – for an outlay of £100-£200 you could save around the same amount in heating bills every year.
Radiators

Much of the heat coming out of your radiators goes straight into the wall. You can fit reflective material behind your radiator to reflect the heat back into the room.
Another portion of heat goes straight up to the ceiling. Fitting a shelf above the radiator helps deflect the heat out in to the room. Use real timber rather than MDF for these shelves.
