A medium/long haul flight can produce as much in the way of CO₂ emissions as the rest of your annual output combined. Planes produce 8 times more CO₂ per passenger mile than a train.

There are many websites that calculate the CO₂ emissions of flying. Many of them then allow you to offset the emissions by buying an equivalent amount of activity that will replenish the CO₂ you have generated, such as planting trees.
