We use over 5 billion aluminium drinks cans per year in the UK – about 84 cans each, or 1.3 kg of aluminium.

In 2005 13 billion steel cans were produced in the UK, and only 3 billion were recycled. So what happened to the rest?

We use around 600 million aerosols in the UK each year – that’s 10 cans each. Around 25,000 tonnes of steel and 4,500 tonnes of aluminium could be recovered if we all recycled our aerosol cans.

Over 75% of local authorities now collect aerosols in can banks. If they don’t, hassle them.
