Seasonal Foods

carrots and leekFor most of the year it is possible to buy food that is in season in the UK. However there is a period in early spring when there is not enough produce to go around. The alternatives at this time are frozen food, growing in hothouses, and importing. All of these use energy (yes, even the freezer!).

If you shop at specialist food shops or farmer’s markets you are much more likely to be buying seasonal food, as well as supporting the local economy and reducing your food miles. It also tastes better!
