Roof Insulation

roofAround 7% of heat loss from a house is through the roof – this is down from around 17% in 1970, due to more houses having roof insulation..

It might cost you £200-£300 to insulate your roof, but the savings could be around £100 a year, which makes just about the best investment option for saving energy.

The minimum recommended depth of roof insulation now recommended is 270mm (about 10 inches). This can be fitted yourself, or use a national or local fitter who may also be able to apply for a grant for the work on your behalf. If you fit it yourself remember to wear suitable protective clothing.

See our list of insulation materials. Wool and paper based products are good alternatives to the traditional glass fibre insulation.
