Reclaimed Timber

Rercalimed timber can add a lot of character to your home. Tips for choosing and using reclaimed timber:

  • You may have to work around the sizes of timber you can get hold of, and change your design to suit – you see, it adds character!
  • Check the timber is structurally sound. If you are buying from a supplier, then they should declare the suitability of the timber for use. If not, ask!
  • You get what you pay for (generally, hopefully)
  • Painted wood is a warning sign – check it. The wood underneath may be damaged, contaminated, and the paint itself (especially if old) may contain toxins
  • Creosote is toxic – avoid it
  • Don’t use reclaimed timber for food preparation areas
