We use around 600 million aerosols in the UK each year – that’s 10 cans each. Around 25,000 tonnes of steel and 4,500 tonnes of aluminium could be recovered if we all recycled our aerosol cans.

Over 75% of local authorities now collect aerosols in can banks. If they don’t, hassle them.

Remember:

• never crush or pierce the cans (they might explode)
• make sure each aerosol is empty to avoid wasting your own money as well as introducing pollutants to the recycled material
• remove plastic parts first
