Lead is a soft, heavy, bluish-white metal with many uses due to its low corrosion rate. It is a neuro-toxin which accumulates in soft tissue and bones. It also causes blood and brain disorders.

Use in petrol is now virtually wiped out in the UK. Use in paint is also prohibited, although lead-based paint can still be found in many old buildings. It can also be found in old toys and pottery.
