About Mygreenfootprint

Mygreenfootprint is different to any other green information website around. Most sites either focus on providing (often very good!) environmental information, or selling green products. Our focus is on providing our customer (you!) with a service: this includes information (over 300 articles and still growing) and products (in due course), but primarily we want to help you to motivate yourself to reduce your impact on the environment, however big or small those changes are, and at whatever speed you want to do it.

So once you are registered you can use the self-assessments and calculators to decide what changes you want to make, and store your own personal targets. When you return to the site you can review, change, and tick off your targets as you meet them.

The service is completely free to registered users. We aim to generate income through advertising and selling third party products once a sufficient user base is established – if you have permitted us to contact you via email we will let you know as soon as these services are available. We would also like to know what you think of the site, and what features you would like to see added - let us know on the feedback forum or at contact@mygreenfootprint.com.

We are not affiliated to any other organisation. Our advice is given on the basis of current knowledge, gleaned from a variety of sources, and the opinions expressed are those of our contributors.

Rather than repeating what is said elsewhere, we will often point you at the best source of further information on a topic. The website is designed to be extremely flexible, both so it can grow to match the volume of information being added, and so that however much information there is on the site, it is easy for you to find. [For the nerds amongst you: we have used the Drupal open source content management system to build the site - very flexible, very frustrating to use.]

There are currently a small number of contributors to mygreenfootprint.com. If you would like to get involved and contribute to the site please contact us at contact@mygreenfootprint.com. Submitting articles, stories and opinions is quick and easy. If you don’t want to become ‘officially’ involved, you are welcome to post comments on articles, and contribute to our forums.

How to Use the site

Of course, you can use the site any way that suits you, but our suggestion on how to get started is:

1. Register - this gives you access to all the features

2. Go to My Assessments, and take the Basic Assessment - that's the bottom one (apologies, we are trying to move it to the top!)

3. Pick the targets you want, as suggested in your assessment results

4. Go to My Targets, and modify your chosen targets (change the text, input a completion date) to suit you

5. Use the site to look up the information you need to help you meet your targets

And start to get greener!
